With glaucoma being the leading cause of blindness in dogs, be sure to know some of the warning signs. Glaucoma is caused by increased fluid pressure in the eye. This can be from eye injury, eye diseases, or physical traits that predispose certain breeds of dogs and cats. Timely diagnosis and treatment can save your pet pain, suffering, and possibly blindness. Here are some of the warning signs:

  • Pain – pain can be characterized by loss of appetite and depression, or pawing at the eye
  • Dilated pupil
  • Cloudiness within the cornea
  • Red or bloodshot eye
  • Loss of vision
Be sure and contact your veterinarian if your pet is showing any of the above signs or for any other questions you may have.
